MARSEILLE

Cosmopolitan port on the Mediterranean

Founded in 600 BC by the Phocaeans, the city of Massalia, now Marseille, has always been a crossroads of ideas, races and civilizations. A surprisingly lively cosmopolitan city, its functions as a large port city and of trade often make one forget its natural assets. Marseille is now the second most important city in the country after Paris, a city of history and a large port on the Mediterranean.
Museum lovers will be able to discover the contemporary architecture of the new MUCEM, which presents collections devoted to the history of Europe and the Mediterranean. Others will enjoy strolling around the Old Port or going up to the Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica to admire the panorama of the city and the bay up to the famous Chateau d’If. Or we will not miss an excursion to the marvelous calanques massif which stretches for 20 km to Cassis. And finally, the curious gourmets will not fail to taste a delicious bouillabaisse, emblematic dish of the region.
